It is hard to miss the impact of a hedge at the entrance. It certainly makes a welcoming and bold statement. The first photograph is shot by photographer George Leveque and is a hedge designed by Alain de Conde. This particular hedge looks like it might want to take your coat for you, or, shake your hand in greeting, even. The second photo is by me with my Polaroid One-Step at noon day light on a rural South Carolina byway (and, just a wee bit of trimming is in order). The third photograph is by Christian Sarramon and both first and third selects are from the the The Ultimate Garden Book for North America by renowned English gardener, David Stevens. It is a big title, but, it is a great combination of coffee table extravaganza and reference material.
